How Much Can the Ford F-250 Tow?

Ford F-250 Towing There’s no doubt about it: The 2020 F-250 can power through the hardest projects. From towing a boat up mountain roads to moving heavy equipment on the jobsite, this truck can handle it all. Rated to tow up to 20,000 pounds conventionally, the F-250 won’t let anything hold you back.

In fact, with the 5th-Wheel/Gooseneck setup, this Ford truck can tow even more. Expect a towing capability of up to 22,800 pounds with that configuration. In all setups, it’s the powerful 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel V8 that’s responsible for this truck’s might, with 1,050 lb-ft of torque on tap.

The F-250 offers many available features for safer towing. Use the BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Trailer Coverage to change lanes more easily than ever!

Your Partner in Safety: Ford Co-Pilot360™

When you get behind the wheel of a heavy-duty truck, you want to know it can help you drive safely. The Ford Super Duty F-250 meets that requirement via the Ford Co-Pilot360™ driver-assisting suite.

This suite includes a host of standard and available features designed to boost awareness on the roads. You can respond more easily to dangerous situations, and possibly avoid or mitigate an accident. Use the Adaptive Cruise Control feature, for example, to set a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead.

Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking will help alert you to obstructions and vehicles in your path. Should you get too close, it can apply the brakes automatically. By slowing your vehicle, this feature can help reduce any impact to you and other drivers on the road.

Performance: Shop Three Potent Engines

Ford F-250 Engine SpecsThe 2020 F-250 has many secrets to its success, and its three-engine lineup ranks near the top. Let’s look at the specs for all three powerhouses here:

  • 6.2L Gas V8—385 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque
  • 7.3L Gas V8—430 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque
  • 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel V8—475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque

The 6.2L V8 comes standard on the Ford F-250, though the other two engines are available as upgrades. While the base engine pairs with a TorqShift® G 6-speed automatic transmission, all other configurations use the TorqShift® 10-speed automatic for even smoother, more efficient shifts.

As mentioned earlier, the Power Stroke® V8 is your best choice to optimize towing power. All that torque is great for low-end acceleration, which helps get you up and moving!
