As far as fuel efficiency goes, the XLT reflects the previous trim with a very slight difference. From the 2.3L EcoBoost® I4 engine with 10-speed automatic transmission, your car registers an EPA-estimated 21 city/28 highway MPG with RWD. It uses 300 horsepower to pump up the pace and 310 lb-ft of torque to give you the push you need to speed. Like the entry level trim, you do have the option for the larger engine.

Ford Explorer Limited

The Limited trim shares similarities with both the entry level and XLT trims. It gives you an EPA-estimated 21 city/28 highway MPG like the entry level and XLT. Choose between both the Turbocharged 2.3L EcoBoost® I4 engine and the available 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 engine that is Twin Turbocharged for extra oomph on the road.   

If you stick with the 2.3L engine and RWD, use six Selectable Drive Modes, including Normal, Sport, Trail, Slippery, Eco, and Tow/Haul contained in the Terrain Management System™. It heightens your traction on the road, depending on the conditions you encounter.

Ford Explorer ST

If you purchase the ST trim, you’re in it to win it in a big way. It comes with a standard 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 engine, accompanied by standard Intelligent 4WD. This system works with the Terrain Management System™ that now comes in seven different Selectable Drive Modes, including Deep Snow/Sand. You can expect an EPA-estimated 18 city/24 highway MPG on the road.

This powerhouse fires up with an incredible 400 horsepower abetted by 415 lb-ft of torque that makes your SUV unstoppable. It reaches a top speed of 143 MPH if you race it just right and accelerates from 0-60 MPH in just 5.5 seconds.
