2020 Ford Explorer MPG

2020 Ford ExplorerSaving or splurging on gas may be determined by the type of gas mileage you get with your vehicle. If you plan to buy a new SUV, fuel efficiency may be a consideration topping your list, especially if you travel all over Morganton and Boone, NC. The 2020 Ford Explorer caters to varied drivers in Newland and Lenoir who use their SUVs for very different purposes.

With five separate trims in the Ford Explorer family, including the entry level, XLT, Limited, ST, and Platinum, you want to choose the SUV with the ideal fuel economy for your needs, whether it appears somewhat important or of paramount concern. To walk you through each trim’s fuel economy, Cloninger Ford Morganton created this handy guide explaining which trim gives you what gas mileage.

Ford Explorer

In the entry level trim, you achieve an EPA-estimated 21 city/28 highway MPG, which is great for anyone who drives within congested city streets but also travels far distances across the state. It comes from a 2.3L EcoBoost® I4 engine with RWD. As someone who drives daily for work, you’ll be happy to know that the Remote Start System will help you get started before an early morning commute.

Opt for the available Intelligent 4WD, accompanied by the available 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 engine if you prefer. With this engine, you get an EPA-estimated 18 city/24 highway MPG to get you where you’re going. If you make shorter trips or drive locally, this engine may be the way to go.

Ford Explorer XLT

2020 Ford Explorer XLTAs far as fuel efficiency goes, the XLT reflects the previous trim with a very slight difference. From the 2.3L EcoBoost® I4 engine with 10-speed automatic transmission, your car registers an EPA-estimated 21 city/28 highway MPG with RWD. It uses 300 horsepower to pump up the pace and 310 lb-ft of torque to give you the push you need to speed. Like the entry level trim, you do have the option for the larger engine.

Ford Explorer Limited

2020 Ford Explorer LimitedThe Limited trim shares similarities with both the entry level and XLT trims. It gives you an EPA-estimated 21 city/28 highway MPG like the entry level and XLT. Choose between both the Turbocharged 2.3L EcoBoost® I4 engine and the available 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 engine that is Twin Turbocharged for extra oomph on the road.

If you stick with the 2.3L engine and RWD, use six Selectable Drive Modes, including Normal, Sport, Trail, Slippery, Eco, and Tow/Haul contained in the Terrain Management System™. It heightens your traction on the road, depending on the conditions you encounter.

Ford Explorer ST

2020 Ford Explorer STIf you purchase the ST trim, you’re in it to win it in a big way. It comes with a standard 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 engine, accompanied by standard Intelligent 4WD. This system works with the Terrain Management System™ that now comes in seven different Selectable Drive Modes, including Deep Snow/Sand. You can expect an EPA-estimated 18 city/24 highway MPG on the road.

This powerhouse fires up with an incredible 400 horsepower abetted by 415 lb-ft of torque that makes your SUV unstoppable. It reaches a top speed of 143 MPH if you race it just right and accelerates from 0-60 MPH in just 5.5 seconds.

Ford Explorer Platinum

2020 Ford Explorer PlatinumThe luxurious Platinum trim also comes with a standard 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 engine and Intelligent 4WD that gives you an EPA-estimated 18 city/24 highway MPG and uses a 10-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift. For a spurt of adrenaline, the SUV uses 365 horsepower paired with 380 lb-ft of torque to push you forward.
