Morganton, NC, known as “Nature’s Playground,” is situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Catawba River and is a beautiful place to live and work. With the stunning natural scenery all around and superb amenities, there’s a lot of reasons we love to live here.

1. Downtown Shopping

The downtown shopping area is filled with local and national businesses offering everything you could need and more. Whether you have something specific in mind or just love to browse, the downtown area is a fabulous place to visit.

You’ll find dedicated outlets with antiques, boutique fashion, books, bicycles, bedding, furniture, pets, flowers, food, and so much more here. For the arts and crafts lovers, there are even working pottery studios and art galleries to visit.

2. Excellent Restaurants

Downtown also has a wonderful variety of restaurants for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. We love dropping into Swede’s Café in the Morganton General Store for a breakfast of “Brittany’s French Toast”, and inevitably at some point in the morning, we need a coffee or two from Grind Cafe.

For dinner, residents are really spoiled for choice and can choose from all ends of the culinary spectrum, from Uncle Eee Burgers to Kin2Kin sushi or Root & Vine French cuisine, and then ending up with something sweet from Dessert First.

3. GreenWay Trail System

The incredible GreenWay system is just a small distance from the city’s heart but gives residents and visitors direct access to nature. With nearly 5 miles of paved trail for biking, walking, and jogging, everyone can enjoy some time in the great outdoors, whatever the weather.

There are five access points with excellent parking, so it’s easy to get involved, and since 2009 the system has been part of the North Carolina Birding Trail due to the wide range of birdlife that can be seen year-round.

4. Morgantonfest

This huge, annual community festival brings everyone together for music, food, and fun. There are three free concert stages with local and national acts performing music for all tastes, and a huge street food court offers everything hungry fest-goers could need.

There’s the famous Sunrise Fun Run, where residents compete over 5k or 10K across the city, and also the Miss Morganton Pageant. Everyone in the city enjoys the festival each year and many visitors come especially to take part.

5. Farmers Market

Every Wednesday and Saturday, we have our outdoor farmers market where you can purchase the very best local produce and support local businesses. By shopping locally, you’re also doing your bit for the environment by reducing the need for long-distance transportation.

You’ll find the very best seasonal vegetables, meats, and specialty foods. We always like to visit the Open Hearts Bakery who has the very best sourdough bread and pies around.
